Patriots troll Falcons with “28-3” on scoreboard before season opener

Well, here we go.

On the same day Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan penned a first-person column on what it felt like losing the Super Bowl to New England after leading 28-3 (“The Hangover” can be read on The Players Tribune), the Patriots delivered a sucker punch Thursday night.

The photo below was captured by Bleacher Report’s Mike Freeman on Twitter.

Note the scoreboard above the tunnel at Gillette Stadium, before tonight’s season opener against Kansas City.

Here. I’ll enlarge it:  “ATL 28, NE 3. 2:12 3RD QTR.”

It’s not surprising fans have jumped on the “28-3” things. A number of hats and T-shirts have been made and the comeback has been central to Falcons’ jokes since February.

But it’s a little surprising the Patriots as an organization would do that? Or then again, is it?

Do you think the Falcons would do the same thing if the situation were reversed?

What’s interesting is Falcons owner Arthur Blank and Patriots owner Robert Kraft are good friends. At least I think they are. Or were.

Do you feel this is appropriate or out of line? You’re free to vent.

What was the story about the Falcon's playbook disappearing in the team hotel for a period of time ?The Patriots are well documented cheaters. They are cold-blooded cheating reptiles as evidenced by that scoreboard. This wouldn't even happen in high school because there are things called "character", "sportsmanship" and "personal pride". This is highly unprofessional and in character for Belichick who has dragged his team in to the mud. Their "championships" are tainted and stolen.

You can call it bush league(which is easily understandable). You just don't humiliate a team you upset. You can call it strategy( Belichick reminding his team that they can come back from adversity) or the Falcons can use it as motivation for this season(I like this one best). A shrink would tell you to use it to your advantage. I think they will. I'm going to call that Super Bowl loss and upset.....it was. Atlanta was the better team, but lost. I read this morning that Stanford, an 0-3 team, and a 41 point underdog upset the might Trojans of USC 24-23. So, Atlanta was a 25 point favorite over NE and lost. That's an upset!! So!!...Stuff it Patriots!

Use is as fire and the next time we play them just destroy them. If the Falcons can't at least beat them in the next regular season game after all of this 28-3 ridicule then the Patriots and their fans can say whatever they want because they keep beating the Falcons. Falcons and their fans will continue to be the butt of jokes until they finish on top.

@MoCutter One of the most bush league things I've ever seen in any sport.

BINGO!

If you don't want to see that kind of crap, then WIN the damn game for the first time your miserable 51-year history of also-ran finishes! Especially after they hand you a 25-pt lead late in the third quarter.

Sounds like sour grapes from a bunch of losers.

WIN THE DAMN GAME!

I think they are tacky idiots with an unhealthy obsession over trolling a team and city that never wins anything. But that is the Boston mindset. I've had the misfortune of living here in Boston for the past 4 years, and it's a terrible place filled with terrible people. The reason they are so attached to the "28-3" thing is for no reason other than narcissism. The city of Boston collectively views itself as innately superior to everywhere else in the country, and they react the way you would expect any narcissist to react to anything which challenges their view of themselves. You might expect normal, well-adjusted people who watched their team get the crap beat out of it for 3 quarters only to come back and pull off a miraculous win to be happy about it. Not people from Boston. It's less of a celebration and more of a declaration of "How dare you challenge our obvious superiority?!" Need more evidence? Just look at the way they are still totally obsessed with Roger Gooddell. It's a city of people who have been spoiled to no end with sports success but views themselves as constant victims.

Classless cheats. Maybe they should have practiced more before last nights blowout instead of gloating.Did the NY Giants throw this type thing up in the Cheatriots face when they beat them in the SB? Just trying to get where they decided this was cool.

@STHornet1990 I'll tell you...it's their arrogant, snarky, smarmy, POS, cheating a$$ Coach....it makes me sick to think of idiots calling him the best coach in NFL history...Vince Lombardi would laugh at that remark.

People will be making fun of the Falcons for the next 100 years.

No, that's not at all in good taste if sportsmanship is of any consideration Worse yet, will be if they beat us again this year. That kind of thing could (and maybe should) spill a bottle of "hot sauce" all over Mr Brady and his merry band of cheaters...I hope the players are taking that in...
