Short takes on Georgia’s win over Georgia Tech

You can find my column on Georgia’s 13-7 win over Georgia Tech by clicking this link.

Below are my three “short takes” on the game

1 Mark Richt’s farewell? We don’t know that this was Mark Richt’s farewell as Georgia coach. We just know that not one Georgia official has dismissed that possibility, which seems strange. If the Bulldogs are keeping Richt, why wouldn’t athletic director Greg McGarity say that, just to put the team’s coaching staff and recruits at ease. If Georgia already has decided to fire Richt, why not announce that already? Or maybe McGarity just wanted to watch the team down the stretch before finalizing his decision. We’ll know the answer soon enough.

2. It’s about defense:  This is not meant to short-change the accomplishments of running back Sony Michel (149 yards, one touchdown) or quarterback Greyson Lambert (who was an efficient 18 for 25 for 224 yards). But Georgia’s win over Georgia Tech, and most of its success down the stretch, should be attributed to the Dogs’ defense. Jeremy Pruitt’s defensive unit had a number of shaky moments earlier in the season and he appeared to be at the center of the internal strife on the Dogs’ coaching staff. But the Dogs’ defense improved greatly down the stretch, allowing only three offensive touchdowns and four field goals over the last four games. I know there’s some question about Pruitt’s future. But if Georgia lets this guy go, it would be a big mistake.

3. The running game: All indications are that Georgia will start a true freshman quarterback next season, recruit Jacob Eason (who already has signed his financial papers, although that’s not a binding agreement). Starting a first-year quarterback usually results in some headaches but at least we know he’ll have some good running backs to hand off to. Michel looked strong Saturday, rushing for 149 yards, a 6.2 per-carry average and a 34-yard touchdown on fourth-and-1 on the first drive of the game. If Nick Chubb can rebound from his serious knee injury, he and Michel will form a strong duo next season.

Not to worry fans of Coach Richt he will be not be fired. He is leading the Dogs to another 10 win season . Latest Bowl prediction has UGa playing Penn State in The TaxSlayer Bowl (formerly the Gator Bowl). A trip back to J-Ville for the Dogs and another chance for a 10 win season. It does not matter to a large majority of Richt supporters that in 2015 his signature win was against Ga.Southern in OT.No need to focus on that ugly stretch of games in October (Bama, Tennessee, Missouri and the Gators) because the Dogs are back on a winning streak in November. Impressive wins against powerful opponents (Kentucky, Auburn, Ga.Southern and big in state rival Ga.Tech) have the program back on track. And with another Dream Team coming in 2016 CMR will win another Pre-Season National Title. This should calm all of that nasty NOISE from all of those "Not True Dawg Fans" wanting a new head coach at UGa.

Once upon a time it was thought that Schultz and Bradley might achieve some status as sports writers at a large regional newspaper. Alas, it did not happen. Instead of original, interesting, and somewhat intelligent writing, we get drivel where they want to be kingmakers and create the news. The bar has actually been quite low the last few years at the AJC due to its broader failure in journalism and integrity of thought, which makes the case for these two clowns with crayons even worse. At least Schultz is sometimes funny. Bradley has never been funny, just consistently stupid. But to the point, these two guys should be fired. Realistically, what has either one achieved recently? It's time for them to move over to Creative Loafing or some other publication that could better use their talents. Just fire them or admit the AJC is a second rate has-been rag with no aspirations of greatness.

The first year in the last five the dogs have held GT

under 300 or 400 yards on the ground. Great D dogs!!

Everyone held us to low yardage this year. Not much to get overly excited about. We were one lucky play from being 2-10 lol. Great win!!

I seriously doubt they will fire him.  Admin. are too happy with 10 wins a year.

I'm worried that Smart will get the SC job, then Pruitt will leave to go back to Bama because he is tired for working for a head coach that mails in his efforts and preparations.

Fire Schultz and Bradley. They need to go and AJC needs  to find some up and coming journalists that can have an original thought. We are so tired of their negative BS.  Fire them tonight.

@dogman46olf Bradley is an SEC homer cheerleader. He flags

GT at every turn. The Dogs recruit 8 star players and

beat the beaten up Jackets by two BIG FIELD GOALS

That should be Bradley's lead story line, but no, not this homer
