Why are those Freeman T-shirts included in Braves’ clearance sale?

The Braves and MLB didn’t take long to put this on sale.

The Braves are building quite a roster of former players. It would be interesting to watch a game of the Former Braves vs. the Current Braves in an exhibition but I’m afraid the Current Braves are having enough problems selling tickets and that game wouldn’t help marketing’s cause.

It makes sense that Jason Heyward items are on sale. But...

It makes sense that Jason Heyward items are on sale. But…

But many of the Former Braves still exist on their website — in the form of a clearance sale. Click this link and it will take you to the clearance section of the Braves’ shop on the official MLB fan gear outlet. You’ll notice things like an authentic Jason Heyward jersey marked down from $246.99 to $157.97, a Craig Kimbrel jersey from $109.99 to $76.97 and — an unfortunate new arrival — an Andrelton Simmons jersey slashed from $109.99 to $81.97.

... But why have Freddie Freeman T-shirts also been marked down?

… But why have Freddie Freeman T-shirts also been marked down?

(For some reason, an authentic B.J./Melvin Jr Upton jersey has been cut by only $66.02 to $180.97, although the fact it’s still way overpriced kind of makes sense.).

The most worrisome news on the site might be this: While most of the clearance jersey, T-shirts and memorabilia commemorate former Braves — Heyward, Kimbrel, Simmons, B.J. and Justin Upton, Evan Gattis, Brian McCann and Dan Uggla — there’s one exception. There’s only one exception: Freddie Freeman.

Yes, amid rumors that the Braves are shopping Freeman — rumors that have been denied by general manager John Coppolella — there are two Freeman shirts on sale: a 2015 “Stars and Stripes” T-shirt and a Memorial Day “Camo Name and Number” T-shirt, each reduced $6 to $21.97. (His jerseys remain full price.)

I don’t offer this as empirical evidence that the Braves will deal Freeman. I just find it an amazing coincidence.

Ray Edwards wore 93, as in the number of minutes he spent on the field as a Falcon.

For what it’s worth, I snooped around the official online shops of the NFL, NBA and MLB and discovered a few more bargains:

The NFL is selling a Falcons’ Ray Edwards’ youth jersey for $39.99 (reduced $30). So, you know, if you really hate your kid…

TypeTim Tebow” in the NFL shop window and you’ll find a flood of items from his time with Denver, the New York Jets and Philadelphia (even though he never played a game there). The Jets’ green “Tebow In The City” T-shirt can be yours for $19.99.

Who wouldn't want a Josh Smith Pistons' bobblehead doll?

Who wouldn’t want a Josh Smith Pistons’ bobblehead doll?

The NBA store is selling a Detroit Pistons/Josh Smith bobblehead doll for $17.99. He’s holding the ball and looks like he’s getting ready to pass. Not very realistic.

There were no Hawks/Smith or Joe Johnson items in the NBA store. But Johnson’s Nets’ “swingman home” jersey has been reduced from $109.99 to $59.99. Like Upton, it’s a relative bargain compared to the contract.

Terrible article by Schultz and it's one of his highlights for the month. How can he keep back stabbing Mark Richt when his writing is worse than the way the Dawgs played against Florida?

Freddie Freeman is the Dale Murphy of these Braves.  They'd better keep him.

And lighten up commenters.  The Josh Smith dig is funny.

This is easily the laziest, most poorly written column/blog I've ever read by Jeff Schultz, and I've (almost) always been a fan of his.

Who would've imagined a limited-edition, soon-to-be-replaced-with a-similar-model-for-2016, camo-imprinted T-shirt would be placed on clearance after the 2015 season has completed?   (Rolls Eyes)

[Sarcasm OFF]

The AJC continues to circle the drain...

Stupid column; silly writer; terrible 'paper'.  The AJC - still establishing the very bottom of daily journalism and professionalism in America.

The National Enquirer thanks you.

I don't really hate the kid, but with a birthday coming up and a fortunate last name someone might be getting a "customized" jersey as gift. Thanks!?!?

BFF Schotty!:

Teams running fewest offensive plays per game 1. Army 60.4 2. Syracuse 62.6 3. LSU 62.7 4. Penn St 62.8 5. Georgia 63.6 6 South Car 63.8

Shhhhhhh! Don't dare let Hart find out he's been fire selling players and not old jerseys, he just might go jump off Stone Mountain!

Why are those Freeman T-shirts included in Braves’ clearance sale? Um, maybe because they suck

Schultz has way, way too much time on his hands.

The barves front office hogs and cobb political fat cats are certainly clearing out all the brewskis, tater skins, and babyback ribs at the 27-Applebee's in barvesworld, all paid in full by cobb taxpayers.  Since the price is right, with cobb taxpayers picking up the tab in full, the billionaire barves fans, who are the only barves fans left that remember the barves, just keep on gulping down those $500 scotches, sliding suitcases stuffed with cobb taxpayer cash under the table to their buddies, and lighting $600 cigars with $100 bills from the cobb taxpayer coffers during each and every barves shutout loss.

@Ersatz The "27-Applebee's"?  You're getting lazy in your stupidity.
