Oregon mocks FSU with chop, Winston with ‘No means no’ chant

PASADENA, Calif. — Oregon was billed as the “nice” team in this perceived “Good vs. Evil” match-up in Thursday’s Rose Bowl against Florida State — obviously an overstated media narrative. But at least a few of the Ducks’ players weren’t above mocking the Seminoles and Jameis Winston following a 59-20 win.

As confetti fell on the victory podium, three Oregon players, including running back Kani Benoit and linebacker Christian French, could be seen and heard doing Florida State’s “Tomahawk Chop.” They also chanted, “No means no,” an obvious reference to the rape allegations against Winston, the FSU quarterback.

Winston never was charged but the alleged incident has drawn national attention because of perceptions that local law enforcement in Tallahassee bungled the investigation.

Oregon coach Mark Helfrich released a statement to the Associated Press, saying, “We are aware of the inappropriate behavior in the postgame. This is not what our programs stand for, and the student-athletes will be disciplined internally.”

Here’s a Vine of the Oregon players:

who even cares? it was about time the slipper fell off of cinderella's foot anyway. they should've thrown crab legs and condoms at jimbo and shameus.

A more appropriate topic would be that a majority of the FSU players left the field without shaking hands or congratulating O players.

Likely this had something to do with the mocking and deservedly so.  FSU played as if they were mentally weak and undisciplined - then they proved it with their post game actions.  OU players were just having fun.

Anyone getting their panties bunched up about this needs to get a life.

that's not nice of oregon!  jameis will not be happy!  he'll be signing a deal with agents soon for millions and can buy all the crab legs he wants!

The Chip Kelly element remains with the Ducks. A lot of cheap shots by them during the game as well...

Quackmeyer
Quackmeyer

@NOVAJacket  But the cheap shot trophy belongs to FSU. The last 16 mons have been especially good for FSU and their PR campaign to stay the most hated school in America.  They are already talking about a 3-peat down in Tallahassee.

Hilarious everyone burries their head on this subject clearly jw has very low character and I applaud the ou players. I know the fsu coach and players love Jameis but I'm sure sandusky's players loved him too.

Every team has their knuckleheads.  However, only a select few handle them with class, dignity and accountability, and the very best at this is Mark Richt.

Jimbo and FSU investigated.  They found no wrong doing by any Oregon player.  The video taped lied.

Sorry.  Didn't see that anyone else had said it.  It had to be done.

Mocking tomahawk chops - amusing - boys will be boys

Mocking serious allegations of an unspeakable crime - not funny at all.

If mocking one of your opponents signature chants is a problem then the entire TCU DL should be censured.  I saw more shark fins from them on 12/31 than from the entire Ole Miss team.

I know a UGA player would never make fun of an opponent by making a gesture like making the alligator chop during a Florida game,  or standing over a player and taunting him.  They only do that at home and on the road  while their fans shout "over rated" at opposing teams.

Bad news that Tamp Bay got the #1 pick.  Them getting Winston would of set them back years, but with Mariotta... ouch.

Everyone knows what Oregon is up to.

They will implode when the NCAA decides to act.

Go easy on em coach. After all it was FSU, they just acted out what a whole lot of us have felt for a long time.

Those (few) Oregon players should not have done that and it definitely is contrary to the class and values their program usually projects. They were wrong to do it. It embarrases their coach and their university. But you have to love the karma train that pulled into the FSU station yesterday.

I wonder how Bear Bryant or Vince Lombardy would handle a player getting in his face or walking away when being addressed?

Quackmeyer
Quackmeyer

@DrPhill  One and only once a player tried that with Vince.  His All-Pro center during the glory years.  Vince walked off the practice field, went into his office and in 10 min, the player was with another team.  True story, but I can't remember the players name but we would all remember it, for sure.  It was a money issue or an agent issue if I remember correctly.  That was a long time ago!

@Quackmeyer @DrPhill Jim Ringo was the center during the glory years and I don't recall him being in any kind of trouble.  He is a member of the Packer's Hall of Fame.

Quackmeyer

@Aztec @Quackmeyer @DrPhill  This player didn't have any trouble, he just questioned Vince and Vince showed him the door.  If Ringo spent his entire career with GB then it was not him.

What NO mention of FSU players flicking off people as they head to the showers...  FSU should be ashamed and embarrassed at this short of sportsmanship..

Quackmeyer
Quackmeyer

@forexbomb  Did you see that or did the announcers say that?  I know the color guy was not happy about FSU not being good sports after the game with the Duck players.  The Rose Bowl has THE most respected tradition of all the bowls.  A real low blow by FSU when the whole sports world was watching.  If you were on the fence about FSU football, that should do it for you.  Man, what a way to have the whole country turn on you in less than 16 mon.

PaulinNH

@Quackmeyer

The announcer said it - I didn't see the FSU players leave the field - who knows.

Heck, on the Alabama-OSU game I didn't see any Alabama players shaking hands with OSU but what the heck does that prove.

LuxLucisofVerum

@Quackmeyer @forexbomb On the fence about Forced Sex U? Nobody with a brain is on the fence about FSU's program - they are as dirty as it gets and so are the college police in Tallahassee

@Quackmeyer @forexbomb I'm sure you can validate. There is plenty of tape to watch...  But hey, the tape lies...  FSU is a disgrace to the ACC....  But nothing has changed at FSU.. The ONLY football factory in the ACC.

@PaulinNH @Quackmeyer It proves that it is equally important to learn how to lose.  Unfortunately, if these guys don't know how to lose gracefully by know, then it's probably too late.

So the playoffs were essentially established to 1) make more money of course and 2) break up the continuity of SEC success.  I agree, this was a huge rating success and I enjoyed watching those two games.  But they significantly diminished many other bowl games that used to play a huge part in deciding who the champion was.  GT vs. Miss St. should have been a HUGE game, yet tickets were $5.  Basically the runt on the playground took his ball because no one wanted him to play and then went to the kiddie park so that he could.  Everybody gets a trophy syndrome

khd713
khd713

@JustSomeThoughts WTF are you talking about? How would the Tech-Miss. St. game have been any bigger without a playoff? It never would have figured in the national championship under the old BCS. The winner is going to finish in the Top 10 regardless. The Orange Bowl carried exactly the same weight with or without a playoff. Nothing changed. Why would the game have been any bigger without the playoff? Every college football fan in America other than you has been waiting a lifetime for a playoff. It wasn't created to make more money. It was created to FINALLY meet the wishes of the increasingly agitated college football fan base and to fix a system that was flawed. Your "random thoughts" make absolutely no sense.

BravesFan79
BravesFan79

@JustSomeThoughts Dude, not having a playoff is what made College football the joke of ALL sports for decades!    99% of the bowl games have always been meaningless.   That's the point of the bowls..... so every little kid can get a ribbon at the end and say "were #1"... even tho they were a 6-5 team.

We just need to go to a 8 team playoff so that the lesser bowls can be what they truly have always been... exhibitions.

fsu program has been outside the law for years. glad those kids had the gumption to show it to the nation. one kid got gunned down for shoplifting and crossing the street in mo. in fsu might get you a ride home if you play football.

fine win and turn your head at "indiscretions". dont be all holier than thou and up tight with your panties in a wad when someone points it out. nothing but smirks as these players get away with potential rape or leaving the scenes of accidents to return with no repercussions. guffaw at any kind of judgmental remarks to describe a reaction to the fsu football program.

yeah,"we will take care of it internally". perfect reaction from the ducks coach. however, that was part of the edge that they had to have to disrespect fsu and beat the tar out of them. which they did.

Oregon's coach also said: "We are aware of the inappropriate behavior in the postgame. This is not what our program stands for . . . ."

Did you conveniently overlook that part.

Apparently he has some class--something you're sorely lacking.

@AtlantaTruth - Unclear who you're talking about. Winston did steal some crab legs, but there was no soda involved. And there were no rapists on the field, so maybe you're thinking of something else?

wreckbone

@pwal24 @AtlantaTruth If you think just because he was not charged he didn't rape that girl go look at more facts.  I think she put herself in a compromising situation but rape is still hard to prove especially in Tallahassee where the cops stated "Good luck making that one stick"  Just get him to the next level so we don't have to hear his every move in college anymore.  Just a classless jerk that can toss the pigskin.
