Georgia being realistic, unlike Jimbo Fisher

I understand Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher’s desire to stand up for his guy. But at what point does even he realize how silly he sounds?

In regards to more than 950 items with quarterback Jameis Winston’s authenticated signature being claimed by a company, James Spence Authentication, Fisher told media in Tallahassee Tuesday. “Feel very good. Talked to [Jameis] and everything, people have talked to the owners of the company and different people, from what I understand. We’ll see.”

More: “He’s never taken a dime for anything. He’s signed thousands of things. I mean, the guy sits for an hour and a half before a baseball game and signed and an hour and a half after a baseball game — I mean, there are thousands of things out there with his name on it.”

Time for a counter-point.

James Spence, the founder of JSA, told ESPN it’s unlikely the autographed items were randomly signed, like before or after games. That suggests the obvious: The items were part of a formal, mass signing, the kind somebody gets paid for. “The way they are sequenced does mean they were submitted at the same time by a person,” Spence said. “I can’t imagine that fans would get together to do that.”

I guess Fisher didn’t speak to Spence. But then Florida State doesn’t seem to care about anything Winston does as long as helps them win football games.

FSU’s approach with the Winston situation has differed from Georgia’s with Todd Gurley. Gurley was suspended indefinitely after an investigation into whether he received payment for autographs opened and already has missed one game.

For my latest column on Gurley, click here. Once the investigation is complete, it’s uncertain how the NCAA will act. The organization is going through change and public sentiment largely has been on the side of athletes.

Georgia didn’t want to risk playing Gurley at Missouri, then later have the NCAA rule against him, effectively making the running back ineligible and forcing the Bulldogs to forfeit the game.

Fisher apparently doesn’t have that concern. Either that or figures his team is dead with Winston, anyway.

Yes FSU has demonstrated already win ant any cost there is just two many unanswered questions  in this program.  To have allowed this Winston to be on the sideline after being suspended demonstrates a lack of judgement on FSU's part, the ACC Conference and most of all the ESPN with their announces offering their continuous..comments of his helping his teammates..  Even a letter to the ACC Commissioner..  Resulted in form letter 54 as their response.  How quickly we forget the outburst of filth laced language. The allegations of other questionable actives of Winston.  This represents with all his talent .his personnel immaturity which yet may cost the school and his team....

Auburn and now Florida State have learned " Just don't say anything ", deny everything and work with cash.

I hate the " Better than the rest ", persona that Notre Dame lives with but they are a very honest Program, I have admit that , just like Georgia but it sure does get old knowing that your institution is going to handicap themselves with high integrity and strong  Values when the Governing body is set up to promote dishonesty.

I can't wait for the SEC to break from the NCAA. I can't stand the way the NCAA promotes dishonesty . They seem to only punish the honest Program who don't need the NCAA. These honest Programs are going to police themselves they don't need the NCAA.

The purpose for the NCAA is to investigate things quick enough before these dishonest program and players can Lawyer up. 90% of the NCAA's job should be addressing these dishonest Programs.

We know beyond any doubt that Winston stole crab legs. When Fisher first asked Winston did he steal crab legs , Winston looked Fisher in the face and said no. A short time later Winston confessed to Fisher that he lied and did steal the crab legs. That was one lie we all know happened.

The other thing that everybody knows is he got on top of a table at the Florida State Student Center and insulted every female in America , showing how disrespect able that he really is toward women.

He just admitted to the BB gun battle he had. He didn't even try to lie his way out of that one.

These are proof of serious character flaws . No doubt he is one of the best Football players in America , showing maturity on the field that very few possess , but that doesn't excuse his immaturity off the field. He acts like a 10 year old not a College kid.  I don't see how Fisher can believe him after Winston was caught in so many things that only embarrass his program and Florida State.

I happen to know Jimbo Fisher personally, so Jimbo will sign memorabila for me - free of charge.  I send him a few items every year and a month or two down the line, they are returned to me, signed.  You know how this happens?  Every once in a while, when Jimbo isn't busy working his tail off or trying to spend time with his family, he sits down and signs footballs for people like me, and boosters, and recruits, and charities, and whoever else wants signed footballs, hats, jerseys or whatever else - because he is a nice person!

In case you're wondering what legitimate purpose people would have to ask him to sign footballs - There are two footballs of mine in Jimbo's queue right now, 1 for a local charity to give away and 1 for that charity to auction off.  When people find out you have a kinship to a coach, they ask for 2 things: tickets and signed items.

So, when you act like Jimbo needs to ask some memorabilia peddler to know how long it takes to sign autographs or whatever else - I laugh.  These guys sign  stuff all the  time, to be nice.  Now, clearly, some folks have gotten paid for their signatures.  The guy who alleged that Gurley was paid also claimed to be the one who paid him.  They don't have anybody saying that they paid Jameis.  So, for you to go jumping to conclusions is sort of asinine because it is you who doesn't know what you're talking about.

@DrewRamsey So 1,000 fans all bought a Winston jersey and they all just happened to be hanging around Winston to have them sign them, and it so happens that ALL 1,000 fans decided to then sell those jerseys to the autograph dealer? You know, if they didn't have 1,000 sequential serial numbers I might believe Jameis, but this is ridiculous.  Look at all the items you have, how many have sequential serial numbers?  They must have paid Jameis WAY under the table, or given the money to someone connected to him.  FSU is hoping they don't find any direct evidence, or their goose cooked.

DawgNole.....Shame & embarrassment doesn't seem to bother Jameis, the police dept. and many of the fans. I don't know about the University. They have the right and obligation to defend Winston until proven guilty. However,These incidents are like smoke. They are annoying for awhile and then they're gone and forgotten. Life goes on. Gurley and Winston are soon going to be millionaires.

These incidents(other than the rape allegations) are petty in real life and only have a short term impact on the accused. The crimes committed at Penn State are the bad ones. The Penn State faithful are still screaming they were wronged by the NCAA.

@TideDawg Jamies being a fool is not going to help his stock in the NFL. Think what kinda crap he can get into with a huge contract. I figure his stock is dropping fast.

DawgNole
DawgNole

@POAD2014 @TideDawg

It IS dropping fast, and he'll have to continue to improve on the field--and keep his nose clean (a far greater challenge, apparently)--to restore the value of that stock to NFL GMs.

Jimbo is a farce, as is the sham the rest of this university is perpetuating. 2000 items.. LOL. Sure he didn't get paid..sure.

@odelljones FSU has an iron clad case.  They know that Winston cannot read and write, therefore could not have been paid for signatures.!!!!

This has the makings of a great sitcom.

Also from the article:

"Under another policy change, membership in the band is limited to five years for both playing members and student support staff. The band's directing staff is given the explicit right to "suspend, dismiss, or replace a band member'' for reasons including poor marching and/or playing performance, poor rehearsal attitude, or overall improper behavior"

running around naked, would that fall under "improper behavior"? or "poor rehearsal attitude"?

@OH-IO @TheBigWally Lot of clarinet "enthusiasts", running wild up in Columbus, OH-IO.   So glad the administration put their collective minds together to put an end to this kind of behavior.

Did Dean Wormer put Neidermeyer on it?  Is the band now on double secret, probation?.

For 350:

Mandel: It all lines up perfectly for the Razorbacks to finally get over the SEC hump this week. While Georgia is coming off an impressive 34-0 win at Missouri, it’s tough to go on the road back-to-back weeks, and it’s not likely to force another five turnovers. If anything this game goes the opposite way. Dawgs QB Hutson Mason makes a couple of mistakes and allows Arkansas to hang around. (Note: Pick subject to change if Georgia reinstates RB Todd Gurley.Arkansas 20, Georgia 17

@Dawg350 Agreed.  I thought they rose up against adversity far  better than  expected.  Says good things about the attitude in their lockerroom.

Dawg350

Yep...hopefully we will do the same thing this week. Arkansas has struggled with putting pressure on opposing qb's....so maybe mason will have his break out game.
