Paul Johnson’s team is 2-0 but needs improvement vs. Georgia Southern. (Hyoub Shin)

Hello. I have nothing else to write at this time about Bruce Levenson, Danny Ferry and the Hawks. Let’s say we break this up with some actual sports.

For the third time this season, we ask: Is Georgia Tech ready for the ACC season? The Yellow Jackets play their third non-conference game of the season against Georgia Southern today (noon, Fox Sports South). They’re 2-0 after wins over Wofford (38-19) and Tulane (38-21) but it both games struggled in the first half and last week at Tulane fumbled twice in their first three possessions.

This game is different in that Tech might actually need to play good four quarters to win. Georgia Southern just stepped up to FBS this year but nobody in this state needs reminding about the strong history of the program. Tech’s Paul Johnson was a head coach there for five seasons, won two Division 1-AA championships and went 62-10.

The Eagles are dangerous and can win this game. They nearly defeated North Carolina State in Raleigh in the season opener, losing 24-23 on a touchdown with 1:37 left. They also ended last season with a stunning 26-20 win over Florida in Gainesville.

Johnson wants to see improvement before next week’s ACC opener at Virginia Tech. That means fewer turnovers, better tackling, better pass coverage, some semblance of a pass rush and a more consistent offense. Even with all that, the Jackets might not win in Blacksburg next week. But at least it give Tech fans expectations of some success in the conference this season.

That’s all for now. I’ll be commenting during the game and responding to questions.

Tech quarterback play is surprisingly good. Didn't expect the offense to come together quickly and put up alot of points. The offense will have to carry this team until the defense catches up. I wonder why Tech has had problems recruiting very good defensive players.

I think it has become quite obvious that Johnson is ineffective as a head coach at Tech., he has become a fireman, trying to put out one fire after the other. The problems just keep migrating. If it's not special teams then it's the defense, if it's not the defense then its fumbles and interseptions. If it's not the first half, it's the second half. When in Gods name is he going to put a complete product on the field? He's the HEAD Coach, not the offensive coordinator.

If he wants to just be responsible for the offense he needs to go. He owns ALL of it. Mybe SMU would be willing to take him off of our hands. Most Tech fans have had enough.

Hey guys, great game.  Everyone at the stadium was very nice, and both teams played really well.  Hail Southern, go Jackets, hell with Georgia.

Dirtyb8 ...........  Maybe you can live long enough to see Tech have a championship type of team that doesn't have to beat scrub players to notch victories. ( but don't eat too many of those hamburgers I'm flipping .......... not good for your heart)

I feel sorry for you Dirtyb8 .............. Once you had something to be proud about involving Tech sports. Now the football and basketball programs are average at best. Even the once strong baseball program is not a sure thing anymore. You're probably even a Hawks and Braves fan ......... LOL  .........  Yes I did graduate from a division one school ............ No I don't flip hamburgers at fast food establishment ............. I probably have enough money in savings to buy one ............ If I ever do I want to hire you as public relations director .............. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA ................ It must feel bad to win the game and still feel like a LOSER ........ LOL

I guess PJ is okay to be a HC now?

Enough ,Tech looked great in first half ,no so great in second half .Put two halves together Jackets might have a chance in the ACC Coastal.Tech played today like the game was over at the half. They won't make that mistake again. Glad that the Plow Boys from Statesboro  gave the fans a good game . Good luck Jackets ,with your ACC season. Now where did Jethro park my Tractor...............

Tech celebrating like they beat Notre Dame. Seriously? A bunch of farm boys from South Georgia just worked your a$$ and the Bees are near orgasmic. If the refs don't save your a$$, Bees become the 3rd best team in the state. Watch out West Georgia, GT is headed your way!

Tech didn't win that game .............. SOUTHERN LOST IT.

@Iceman60 Again dude you are not making sense. Everyone needs to beat scrub team/players to win a national title. FSU barely beat the scrub BC last year, Alabama barely beat the scrub UGA the year before LOL. We already have 4 national titles. How many does your community college team have?

Dirtyb8

@Iceman60 I dont feel like a loser and to be quite honest I have no idea what you are talking about. The ellipsis actually shows your lack of intelligence and your poor grasp of the English language. Community college education doesn't count as division 1. But like I said, I dont get your point in this long poorly worded paragraph. I don't even know why I am wasting time arguing with an uneducated hobo. I guess only reason I replied back was bc you pointed out my screen name. But rest assured, no I don't feel like a loser at all. If you have money to invest in a fast food establishment, then you should probably use that to take some English courses so you can communicate properly and engage in meaningful conversations.

Seriously - Huge Tech fan and glad we won, but this is is a awful team. Not players fault. Johnson has not recruited to play with division 1 competition. We might win 6.

Very impressive win for GT in front of their 653 fans at da North Avenue Hood. Now, could we please get back to working on our Dragon Con outfits!

I know you're joking, but I'll bet you that the VPI blogs will be blowing up, and "Fire Beamer" is probably one of the least outrageous things they'll be saying.

@PoliticalOutsider Dude nobody is celebrating anything. Only your sore a$$ is hurting from that loss and now you somehow need to feel better by justifying your moral victory.

Put a sock in it, troll.  You ran your mouth long enough this week about GT losing to GSU.  And it didn't happen.  So, just like a politician, you look to blame in on someone else........

@Iceman60 cool story Mr. McDonalds worker. You seem like a big guy supporting the all powerful "SEC" conference. If you ever get to attend a division 1 college, let me know. Otherwise just go back to flipping those burgers.

Dirtyb8

@Iceman60 yea thats what sore losers are saying now a days. How about your dumb coach lost it? Did you seriously expect to win with a team and staff full of FCS scrubs?

Dirtyb8
Dirtyb8

@Iceman60 If you only want to support "winning" programs, then why are you showcasing support for the 4-12 Falcons in your screen name? Why not just go support the Super bowl champ, Seahawks or the Denver Broncos. You are truly retarded mr. hobo. Stick to what you do best and that is flipping burgers at McDonalds. And don't worry I try not to overdose on junk food from cheap places.

Buschleaguer
Buschleaguer

@D-Sheets @Buschleaguer I really thought Tech would continue the rout in the 2nd half , Jackets seem to lose focus in 3rd Quarter and let Southern get the momentum. and the game almost got away from them. I hope Tech players learn from this game and come out ready to play the 2nd half the next time they have a big lead.

@Buschleaguer @D-Sheets

Think about the PJ Davis penalty... a 23yd loss is now a 1st down.  This drive was the 32 yd TD run on 4th & 1.

Too many big plays given up by the D, and too many 3rd & 5 or longer conversions.

D-Sheets

@PoliticalOutsider

Actually I am proud of the bees, you clown.  Get over it.

Proud that they actually didn't FOLD.  Made a play (fumble recovery) that was desperately needed.  And then drove down and scored the winning TD.

Exactly, Dirtyb8. Dude ran his mouth all week, now is blaming the refs for GSU not winning.

Next thing, he'll be spouting off about "no new taxes" in true political fashion.
